Pre-World Travel Market 2019 Briefing at the Malaysian High Commission, London

LONDON: Minister of Tourism, Culture and Environment, Datuk Christina Liew is leading a eight-member Sabah  delegation from the Ministry and Sabah Tourism Board (STB) to participate in the World Travel Market (WTM) 2019 at Excel London, here.

Among members of the delegation are STB Chairman Ken Pan Ying On, Director Datuk Alex Decena, General Manager Noredah Othman, Senior Marketing Manager Josephine Chai, Assistant Marketing Manager Daniel Roman and the Minister’s Private Secretary Helen Muhammari.

Twenty-eight tour operators, 10 hotels and resorts, three associations/product owners/airlines and eight state tourism agencies are participating in the event.

Liew, who is also a Deputy Chief Minister, attended the pre-WTM 2019 Briefing conducted by the Director-General of Tourism Malaysia, Datuk Musa Yusof at the Malaysia High Commission, London. 

The Minister and STB Chairman are expected to attend the Minister’s Summit Seminar on Technology for Rural Development at the WTM Global Stage on Tuesday (Nov 5). 

In his welcoming address, Chairman of Tourism Malaysia, Datuk Ahmad Shah Hussein Tambakau said Malaysia’s targets for 2020 are to welcome 30 million tourists and RM100 billion tourism receipts.

“Last year, Malaysia recorded a total of 25.8 million tourist arrivals and RM84.1 billion tourism  receipts. Of this figure, 361,335 were tourists from the United Kingdom (UK) alone, underscoring the importance of this market to us,” he shared.

Earlier, Malaysian High Commissioner to the UK and Northern Ireland, HE Datuk Mohamad Sadik Kethergany said Malaysia’s selling-point would be her people’s warmth and hospitality.
