SANDAKAN: The bus stop near Sung Siew Secondary School is the first of many bus stops in Sandakan that will be installed with light by Sandakan Municipal Council (MPS).
“We are delighted that the lights at the Sung Siew Secondary School bus stop are now in operation,” said Head of MPS Highway and Public Utilities Committee (HPUC) Taren Sunil.
Not only will the lights be of great convenience for those travelling at night, they are also important from the aspect of personal safety for the public, he added.Taren Sunil said that he himself has seen school children waiting in semi-darkness at bus stops late in the evening, either waiting for buses or to be picked up by parents.
“The lights will provide a measure of safety for these school kids as well as members of the public who use the bus stops after dusk,” added Taren Sunil.
He said that in addition to the installation of lights, many bus stops in Sandakan are in the process of being expanded and provided with more seats and larger roof covering to protect users from the elements.
“In line with the policy of MPS to provide better facilities for the people of Sandakan, these improvements will benefit the public, especially commuters who use public transport – something which we are encouraging people to do,” Taren Sunil summed up.
