Restaurant worker gets life sentence for meth trafficking in Sabah

A restaurant worker from Selangor was sentenced by the Kota Kinabalu High Court to life imprisonment for trafficking in more than 22kg of methamphetamine.

Justice Celestina Stuel Galid imposed the sentence on Low Siew Yuen, 54, today after finding him guilty of committing the offence at premises in Inanam, Sabah, on Jan 4, 2022.

However, Low was spared from caning because of his age, Borneo Post reported.

Low was convicted under Section 39B(1)(a) of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952, punishable under Section 39B(2) of the same Act.

The offence carries either the death penalty or life imprisonment and, if not sentenced to death, is liable to not fewer than 15 strokes of the cane, upon conviction.
