SANDAKAN: A joint delegation comprising the Community Development Leaders (PPM) Sekong and Karamunting constituencies and Sandakan Municipal Council HPUC recently conducted joint inspections covering the two areas to identify local problems and to take appropriate remedial measures.

Among the areas visited were Bandar Ramai Ramai & Bandar Leila areas in the Karamunting constituency and Taman Po Hing & Batu Sapi in the Sekong constituency.

“HPUC was very glad that both PPMs were with us for the inspection. Since they are more closely in touch with the people of their respective constituencies and understand local conditions better, we were able to get a clearer understanding about local problems and needs,” Head of HPUC Taren Sunil Manoharan said.

The team was also able to quickly resolve the problem of a trash-filled waterway at Bandar Leila where an excavator was called in to do a good cleanup job.

“We are taking a more holistic approach to solving local problems. When we enter an area, we look at all the issues that come under the responsibility of HPUC and try to find an overall solution so as to be able to be more effective and deliver better results to the people. For issues outside our jurisdiction, we help to redirect them to the relevant authorities,” added Taren Sunil.

During the visit the team inspected drains, waterways, sewerage systems, culverts, water pipes, street lights, bus stops and other facilities in both constituencies. They took note of the various problems for further action.

“We will also be visiting nearby islands soon to find out the problems faced by people there and do our best to provide solutions,” Taren Sunil concluded.
