The victim’s motorcycle in the roadside drain

TAWAU: A motorcycle rider died of serious injuries after crashing into a car that was making u turn along Mile 3 Jalan Apas on Saturday.
The victim was an Indonesian aged 20 and according to the police he did not have a motorcycle license while the driver of the car involved in the accident was a local aged 37.
It was learnt the victim was heading towards Balung and on reaching the scene his motorcycle rammed into the car that had suddenly u turned at the long straight road at about 12.16 am.
OCPD ACP Peter Umbuas said the victim was thrown onto the right road shoulder and his motorcycle fell into a drain.
He succumbed to serious injuries on the spot and his body was sent to the hospital for post-mortem.
The car driver continued to drive on for nearly 800 meters before losing control of his car and crashed with an oncoming vehicle.
His car ended up in the roadside drain and he only went to the police station later at 9.00 am, Peter said.
The district police chief said, the car driver sustained a broken right shoulder while the driver of the second vehicle had yet to come forward to lodge a police report, he added.
“The case is being probed under Section 41(1)(A) of the Road Transport Act 1987. The police are appealing to members of the public with information on the incident to channel the details to the district traffic police,” Peter said.
