MORE CHINESE ARRIVALS TO SABAH

KOTA KINABALU: The inaugural direct charter flight from the city of Xi’an, China to Sabah by Zhejiang Loong Airlines on Tuesday is a fruitful outcome of the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) of Friendship and Cooperation signed in Xi’an on September 23 last year, said Deputy Chief Minister Datuk Christina Liew.

She had witnessed the inking of the document by KK Mayor Datuk Nordin Siman who signed on behalf of Kota Kinabalu City Hall (DBKK) while Vice-Mayor Wang Lin of Xi’an Municipal People’s Government signed on behalf of his government.

Liew, who is also Minister of Tourism, Culture and Environment, had led a 12-member delegation from the Ministkry, DBKK and Sabah Tourism Board (STB).

“The MoU pledges to promote tourism cooperation, places of interest, tourism players, cultural exchange, education programmes, resource sharing and closer collaboration, and to promote economic and trade cooperation and goodwill between the two cities,” she said.

The aircraft that landed at the Kota Kinabalu International Airport (KKIA) was given a rousing water salute on arrival at 3.10pm, here, yesterday.

On hand to welcome the 160 passengers, including the Chairman of Zhejiang Loong Airlines Co. Ltd, Mr Liu Yi, were the Chairman of STB, Ken Pan Ying On, KKIA Airport Manager Sunif Naiman and STB Marketing Manager (China) Ebony Loong.

Loong said there will be three charter flights every week until the end of March this year.

“The first seven charter flights have been sold out,” she added.
