LAHAD DATU: A video capturing an Orangutan wandering near the Malaysian Palm Oil Board (MPOB) Research Centre at Jalan Tengah Nipah in Lahad Datu went viral on social media on Tuesday.
The 25-second clip shows the male orangutan cautiously crossing a road, drawing widespread attention online.
In a statement posted on their Facebook page, the MPOB explained that the orangutan had ventured from their rehabilitation centre, located within the research facility.
The Orangutan Rehabilitation Centre, overseen by the MPOB’s Sustainability, Climate Change, and Biodiversity Unit, was established in collaboration with the Borneo Rhino Alliance (BORA) to support research and conservation efforts for orangutans in their natural habitat.
Lahad Datu Wildlife Officer, Hairulnizam Hasnan @ Magiol, advised the public to keep a safe distance from any wildlife they may encounter and to refrain from approaching these animals.
