SANDAKAN TO HOST FINAL EVENT OF 2019 SABAH SAILING CALENDAR

 SANDAKAN: More than 50 sailors from throughout Sabah will be converging in Sandakan for the final event in Sabah Sailing Association’s annual sailing calendar from Nov 22 to 24.

Sandakan Regatta/ Sandakan River Race/ Sabah Closed 2019 is organised by Sandakan Yacht Club and will be held in the sea fronting the club house at Jalan Buli Sim Sim.

This is the biggest sailing event in the east coast of Sabah and endorsed by Sabah Sailing Association (SAILA) as a ranking event for Sabah State Sailors.

The sailors are from Sabah Sailing Association, Navy Yacht Club Kota Kinabalu, Kinabalu Yacht Club, Tawau Yacht Club and Sandakan Yacht Club.

For this year, the organisers are also expecting the participation of sailors from Brunei Darussalam.

Meawnhile, speaking after the meeting on the preparations of the regatta, Sandakan Yacht Club commodore Joseph Soong thanked Member of Parliament Vivian Wong, Sabah Health and People’s Wellbeing Minister Datuk Frankie Poon and all sponsors  for supporting and making the event possible.

He also expressed gratitude to all relevant government departments for extending cooperation to Sandakan Yacht Club to ensure the safety of the sailors during the regatta.

Present at the meeting were Sandakan Yacht Club vice commodore James Leong who is the organising chairman, Sandakan Yacht Club Sailing captain Ang Lian Hook, organising committee Iris, Sandakan Yacht Club sailing coach Wan Mohd Fazeli Wan Zin and SAILA coach Ahmad Yusoff.
