ELOPURA ASSEMBLYMAN, HPU COMMITTEE, JKR AND DID TO JOINTLY TACKLE ISSUES AT TAMAN INDAH

SANDAKAN: Elopura Assemblyman Calvin Chong Ket Kiun has once again “walk the talk” as he and his men made their rounds at Taman Indah and Bandar Indah township as well as the surrounding areas.

Calvin and his team  inspected the area jointly with the Highway and Public Utilities Committee (HPUC) headed by Taren Sunil Manoharan and a representative from the Drainage and Irrigation Department Henry Chong, and found that there were many problems to deal with.

Calvin and his team  inspected the area jointly with the Highway and Public Utilities Committee (HPUC) headed by Taren Sunil Manoharan and a representative from the Drainage and Irrigation Department Henry Chong, and found that there were many problems to deal with.

“During the joint visit we found a lot of things that needed urgent repair and rectification,” said Taren Sunil who, together with fellow MPS Councilor Bryan Chang, was accompanying Calvin during the inspection tour.

“We saw many drains blocked by weeds. We even discovered that a few house owners have cemented and blocked drains behind their houses with no regard for how their illegal action would affect drainage in the area,” added Taren Sunil in frustration.

“At one place, sewerage could be seen flowing into Sungai Kebun Cina and we immediately informed the Public Works Department (JKR) and asked for their prompt action,” he continued.

In other areas, roadside drains were covered by soil. There were also collapsed drains which contributed to water stagnation. The joint team was shocked to discover that several drains leading from Sung Siew Primary School that were supposed to flow into the river were in fact, surprisingly, not even connected to the river.

It was obvious that whoever was contracted to do the job did not complete it for some reason. The representatives from DID who were inspecting the area with Calvin promised to look into the problem and find a solution.

“We shall also be taking immediate measures to repair a dilapidated bridge in the area. This will have to be done promptly as it is a safety issue for the public,” stressed Taren Sunil.

During the visit to a public park located behind Indah Recreation Club, the visitors found that some unknown person or persons have built a shack to store all sorts of things. At the shop lot area near Happy Mart the team found that the roads and curbs were in need of maintenance and cleaning.

The relevant contractor will be informed and asked to do their contracted job accordingly.“ Calvin and his team together with HPUC, DID, JKR and other local authorities have been making regular site visits and inspections to different areas of Sandakan as part of our effort to serve the people by improving the facilities of our town.

We hope all Sandakan residents will extend their cooperation to us and together make Sandakan a cleaner and more comfortable place for the good of everyone,” concluded Taren Sunil.
