A long stretch of rubble, apparently from renovation works, dumped at a backlane at Bandar Lee Tat
SANDAKAN: Ten truckloads of trash were cleared up from long stretch of back lane at Bandar Lee Tat near here recently.
“All types of garbage were dumped there, the bulk of it being rubble left over from the renovation of shops and factories,” said Sandakan Municipal Council Highway and Public Utilities Committee Taren Sunil Manoharan.
Taren, who was personally present to watch the cleanup, expressed his disappointment that, in spite of repeated reminders, there are still people who prefer to take the easy way out and dump their trash in public places.

“Most of the solid junk dumped at Bandar Lee Tat was clearly from construction/renovation works as they included demolished cement slabs and countless sacks of concrete and bricks fragments.
Clearly some contractors have chosen to dump their junk at open places rather than take the trouble of disposing them properly,” added Taren Sunil.
“HPUC is always very concerned about indiscriminate throwing of rubbish because much of it will eventually be washed by rain into drains where they will hinder or even totally block water flow and cause floods,” he stressed.

Taren also expressed his appreciation to Alam Motivasi Sdn Bhd, a cleaning company, for taking the initiative to assist and clear the rubbish from the area.
“The company took the trouble to bring in heavy machinery and trucks to clear the long stretch of back lane that was strewn with junk and debris. HPUC thank them for their assistance,” said Taren Sunil who once again asked the public to be mindful that being civic-minded in the disposal of rubbish would greatly contribute towards the cleanliness of Sandakan.
