PULAU BAIT RESIDENTS BENEFITING FROM HYBRID SOLAR SYSTEM

SEMPORNA:  Although Pulau Bait is still not connected to the electricity grid system, the power supply is still accessible to the islanders for 24 hours after the establishment of the Hybrid Solar System (HSS).

Sabah Electricity Sdn Bhd (SESB) general manager (Generation) Jait Aziz said the basic facilities had been enjoyed by the islanders since 2013 with the construction of solar systems that enabled them to provide electricity to consumers.

“The solar project received its allocation from the Rural Development Ministry (KPLB) under the Rural Electricity Supply (BELB) project before being handed over to SESB for operations,” he said when met by reporters after inspecting the island’s Hybrid Solar Station, here Wednesday.

According to Jait, besides Pulau Bait, seven other islands in Semporna were also supplied with HSS, thus benefiting about 400 registered homes.

The islands are Pababag, Larapan, Omadal, Selakan, Sumandi, Denawan and Menampilik. Jait said in Sabah there were 34 HSS operating and supplying electricity to consumers especially in the interior and small islands.
