SANDAKAN: The annual Borneo Bird Festival is back and happening this weekend with many activities for young and seniors.
The venue is at the Rainforest Discovery Centre in Sepilok located in the 4,294 hectares Sepilok Kabili Forest Reserve. Its a 25 minutes’ drive from Sandakan airport.
It is home to many endemic wildlife species of Borneo, the Orangutan, Sun bear, Proboscis monkey, Maroon langur, Sabah langur, Tarsier, Slow loris, Flying squirrel and the enigmatic Bornean Bristlehead, Black and crimson pitta, Blue-headed pitta, Giant pitta, numerous reptiles, snakes, beetles and thousands of flowering plants species.
The Borneo Bird Festival is a celebration of the magnificent birds of Borneo. It is aimed at creating public awareness of bird conservation, promoting birdwatching, and encouraging eco-tourism activities.
