KINABATANGAN: Elvenson Henly Jumali was elected the new Komulakan (youth) leader for Upko Kinabatangan last week.

The election was conducted simultaneously with the Upko Kinabatangan Triennial General Meeting held at Kampung Simpang Empat, Entilibon Tongod here.

Elvenson was a recipient of the Sabah Wiraga Cemerlang Belia Award in 2016. He is also the head of Wawasan Youth Union of Tongod which played a role in youth development in the interior particularly Tongod.

In 2016, Elvenson was also named ‘Belia Harapan Tahun 2016’ and received the Special Award from the Kuamut assemblyman in 2017.

He joined Upko in 2013 and started off as a committee member in Upko Kinabatangan Komulakan.

Among the successful events that he organised through Komulakan Upko Kinabatangan include the Swiftlet Entrepreneurship Programme; Community Programme: fixing SK Langkabong Tongod hostel as well as the Healthy Lifestyle and Entrepreneurship Programme held by Tongod Wawasan Youth Union in 2017 at Kota Kinabalu.

At the national level, Elvenson had participated in Pesta Sukan dan Kebudayaan Belia Malaysia organised by Malaysia Youth Council in 2014 in Kangar, Pelis. He also led 24 youths from Tongod to the 2015 National Youth Festival in Putrajaya. In the same year, Elvenson had participated in the Asia Pacific Congress 2015 organised by JCI Malaysia.

When met, Elvenson said that the position he won based on the trust that the youth had in him is not something to be proud of, but a big responsibility that should be carried as long as he can with the community.

When speaking at the Triennial General Meeting of Komulakan here recently, he said that a good leader has to first be a good follower.

He said that Upko Kinabatangan is like a college for its members to gain knowledge and to polish themselves to become leaders, as recommended by Upko Kinabatangan head of division cum Kuamut Assemblyman, Datuk Masiung Banah. – BorneoPostOnline
