PENAMPANG: Minister of Entrepreneurship Development and Cooperatives Datuk Ewon Benedick and Tuaran Member of Parliament Datuk Seri Wilfred Madius Tangau have decided to remain in their respective parliamentary constituencies of Penampang and Tuaran, respectively, due to floods, causing them to postpone their scheduled programmes in Kuala Lumpur today.
Ewon said he has informed the Prime Minister about the situation and his absence from the NEAC meeting.
On Sunday, the Penampang MP also visited the disaster control centre and flood victim relocation centre at the Sabah Cultural Centre.
Several main roads in Penampang are impassable, and electricity supply has been cut off in several areas.
Ewon said the Penampang District Officer has declared the opening of this disaster centre at 5.25 p.m. following heavy rain in Penampang since 1.30 p.m. on Sunday, which caused a major flood in Penampang.
“I am closely monitoring the situation and will continue to provide updates on the flood situation in Penampang,” he said.
Meanwhile, Madius also decided to remain close to the people in Tuaran due to the flood.
“I have made the decision to postpone the flight to Kuala Lumpur this morning.
“Even though I am already at the airport because I need to attend the Parliament session, for me, the people and the situation in the area are more important,” Madius said.
“Since yesterday, I have requested assistance from all Parliamentary Service Centres to monitor and visit all areas affected by floods, landslides, and fallen trees.,” he said.
As of today, the Tamparuli-Kiulu road is still impassable.
