(L-R) Bryan Chang, Taren Sunil & Peter Soo at Jalan Sibuga to observe work on new lamp posts
SANDAKAN: Jalan Sibuga in Sandakan will be getting new and brighter street lights soon.
According to Taren Sunil Manoharan, the Head of the Highway and Public Utilities Committee (HPUC), erection of the lamp posts and the installation of better lighting are in progress.
“Road users will be able to enjoy the benefits of brighter lights along Jalan Sibuga soon. Hopefully it will contribute towards better road safety as visibility for both vehicle drivers and pedestrians would be improved,” said Taren Sunil after he and fellow HPUC members Bryan Chang and Peter Soo went to observe the installation work in progress.
“I believe it will also deter shady characters from using this stretch of road for undesirable activities because when the project is fully implemented there would not be any dim areas along the road,” he asserted.

The team also took the opportunity to inspect the drainage along the same stretch of road and took note of the road maintenance and grass-cutting that have been done by the Public Works Department (PWD).
“We will inform PWD and the DID (Drainage and Irrigation Department) where follow up work is necessary,” said Taren Sunil.“It is the duty of HPUC to coordinate and cooperate with government bodies and departments and other local authorities and their appointed contractors to ensure that everyone is playing their respective roles to improve the amenities and facilities in our town,” Taren Sunil said.
It is not only for the benefit and convenience of Sandakan residents. Better facilities would further boost the image of Sandakan and attract more tourists to visit us. That will bring in more business for our locals,” added Taren Sunil.
