ISTANBUL : A Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) was signed between Sabah Tourism Board (STB) under the Ministry of Tourism, Culture and Environment, and Dorak Holding, the biggest tourism player In Turkey, at the company’s headquarters on Thursday (July 11), here.
This MoU aims to support and initiate Sabah Tourism in Malaysia to strengthen its business by offering Dorak’s business network through the overseas offices.
Chairman of the Board of Dorak Holding, Ahmet Serdar Korukcu signed for the company while Chairman of STB, Ken Pan Ying On signed on behalf of STB.
Ahmet said the overall goal of the initiative is to position Sabah as one of the top choices for the international leisure segment (that is, group, individual, MICE (Meeting, Incentive, Convention and Exhibition) and business travellers.
The signing ceremony was witnessed by Sabah Deputy Chief Minister cum Minister of Tourism, Culture and Environment, Datuk Christina Liew, Dorak Holding Head of Global Brand & Tourism Management, Esra Degirmenci, and STB General Manager, Noredah Othman.
“I am happy for Sabah Tourism Board to reach an agreement with Dorak Holding for both parties’ common interests mutually. We are partners now in a win-win tourism environment,” Liew said.
The main objectives of this partnership are to set up Sabah to attract new markets such as leisure tour business, MICE and others, to assist Sabah tourism in combining packages with other destinations from global markets, act as a bridge between Sabah and other markets, and to promote Sabah to be well-known in other destinations, among other considerations.

This MoU will be valid for 12 months as a trial period, after which both parties will agree on continuation for the further stage.
Also present were Deputy Director (Tourism Malaysia Istanbul Office), Syafinaz Bujang, STB Marketing Manager Humphrey Ginibun (Middle East & India) and the Minister’s Private Secretary, Helen Muhammari.
Esra together with Ahmet will lead a five-member delegation to Sabah in August this year to visit tourism facilities and attractions in the State.
