Chew shows the serious parking problem at the Duchess of Kent Hospital in Sandakan

SANDAKAN:  The elected representatives from Sandakan have been reminded to make good of their promises to their constituents.

“Sandakan folks are expecting them to start delivering results and not continue with their lip service,” MCA Central Committee Member cum Batu Sapi Division chairman Dato Chew Kok Woh said in a statement on Friday.

Chew was commenting on the car parking problem at the Duchess of Kent Hospital and the congestion at Level 2 of the Specialists’ Clinic.

Earlier this week during my usual quarterly blood donation at the Duchess of Kent Hospital Blood Bank, I noticed that the car parking facility is still a major problem to visitors and patients alike.

“What are the immediate remedies to the problem while waiting for the implementation of the proposed solution. I noticed there are security guards on duty at the hospital but is traffic control falls under their job scope,” Chew asked.

The packed waiting area at the Medicine and Paediatirc Specialist Clinic

Meanwhile, Chew said the waiting area of the Medicine and Paediatric Specialist Clinic at  Level 2 of the Specialists Clinic is packed .

“Many senior citizens have come as early as possible to avoid the congestion and waited for hours for their medical appointment. And one can notice that the waiting area is packed due to insufficient seats.

Some of them whom I met told me that they had gone down to the ground floor be seated while their children waited at the clinic for their numbers to be called, he added.

Since the Sandakan State Assemblymen and MP are from the same party (DAP), I urged them to appeal to their party leader and Finance Minister Lim Guan Eng to give more allocation for our Sandakan hospital in the coming 2020 Budget, Chew quipped.

I sincerely urge our State Health Minister and People’s Wellbeing Minister, State Assemblymen and MP to spend more time to “turun padang” and see for themselves the urgency of these matters. There must be a time frame to address these problems and also a Key Performance Indicator (KPI), Chew said.
