A local man has been slapped with a RM10,000 fine in default of four months’ jail by a sessions court here yesterday for slaughtering and eating a dog (samluk).
The man, identified as Martine @ Martin Fredoline Dunong, pleaded guilty to causing the animal harm in Kg Dambai, Penampang.
The offence under Subsection 18 (1)(e) of the Animal Welfare Enactment 2015 carries a maximum punishment of RM100,000 fine or three years’ imprisonment, or both, upon conviction.
Judge Elsie Primus passed the judgement, while Zul Bahar Abdul Rashid prosecuted.
The Sabah Veterinary Services Department today congratulated the prosecutor, investigating officer and enforcement personnel for their success in punishing the offender. – The Vibes
