TAWAU: Tawau will get another direct flight and this time from Brunei, a move that will boost the tourism growth in the east coast town.

Sabah Tourism, Culture and Environment Ministry welcomes direct flight which is expected to commence by November this year.

It’s Minister Datuk Christina Liew who is also Sabah Deputy Chief Minister said talks had been finalized and was awaiting for the date to start the flight from Royal Brunei Airlines.

She said this when met by media after the closing of the Karnival E-Padaidi Bugis Sabah (KAReBA) 2019 at the Tawau Municipal Council compound on Sunday night.

“The exact date for the commencement of the direct flights between Brunei and Tawau is not important but what is more important is the east coast of Sabah, in particular Tawau, ready to receive the influx of visitors to this area,” Liew said.

“If there is one more direct flight from outside to Tawau, can all the facilities in Tawau meet the needs of visitors and tourists,” Liew who is also Tawau Member of Parliament, added.

“Tawau is an important location, it is the gateway to the east coast of Sabah and I will put in all efforts to promote the district’s tourism industry,” Liew said.

Also present at the event were Kalabakan Member of Parliament Ma’mun Sulaiman, Balung Assemblyman Datuk Osman Jamal, KAReBa 2019 chairman Mohd Manuke and 1KAReBA director Dr. Mokhtar Alwi. (New Sabah Times)
