SEMPORNA: The issue of foreign tourists moonlighting as tour guides and dive masters in the district will be brought to the State Cabinet Meeting.

Sabah Deputy Chief Minister Datuk Jaujan Sambakong said when asked to comment on foreign tourists working illegally as dive masters in Semporna.

“I will raise the matter in the Cabinet meeting and I hope the locals, visitors or tourists in Semporna will comply with the stipulated rules,” he said.

Jaujan who is also Sabah Local Government and Housing Minister said after the launching of the 2019 Tawau and Lahad Datu level State Public Sector Information and Communications Seminar (ICT) here yesterday.

He added the incident involving the deaths of two foreign tourists and a dive instructor while diving in Semporna waters on Friday was deeply regretted.

Meanwhile, commenting on the seminar, Jaujan said it was high time to develop the ICT services in Sabah including providing better infrastructure facilities.

“If our telecommunication network is not systematic and infrastructure development not progressing, we will get left behind considering Sabah has become a tourist destination and ICT is much needed,” he said. –(NEW SABAH TIMES)
