HUMS – Sabah State Health Department collaborate in KPT Community Program

Hospital Universiti Malaysia Sabah (UMS) paid a courtesy visit to Sabah State Health Department (Dental) recently, to embark on a collaborative journey via ‘Program KPT Prihatin Komuniti Sejahtera’ (KRIS).

The director of Hospital UMS, Professor Dr. Helen Lasimbang, said the visits had a very fruitful discussion, and both parties agreed to collaborate and work together in that community service.

“Collaboration is one of HUMS core values. We can achieve much more than working alone by working together and sharing resources, knowledge, and expertise.

“Collaborating with Sabah State Department (Dental) will help broaden the patients’ coverage and benefit the underprivileged,” she said in a statement here today.

During the visit, the Deputy Director of Sabah’s Dental Department, Dr. Zaiton Haji Tahir together with six other officers held discussions on their future plans with Hospital UMS.

Also present were six officers including the HUMS head of the Dental Unit, Dr. Petrina, and the head of HUMS Emergency Department, Dr. Yung Chee Tien.

Dr. Petrina said she aimed to improve dental health amongst the rural communities through empowerment.

“KRIS is one of the modalities we can use to bridge the gap between urban and rural communities.

“Hospital UMS is looking forward to working together with Sabah’s Dental Department to restore, improve and promote awareness towards dental health in our society,” she said.

For the record, The KRIS programme aims to empower communities in rural areas to stay healthy, obtain general health care check-ups, offer HPV-DNA tests for cervical cancer, and basic dental treatment, thus making healthcare more accessible to the community.
