Liew Announces RM20k Donation to SJK (C) Shan Tao

KOTA KINABALU: Deputy Chief Minister Datuk Christina Liew announced a donation of RM20,000 in aid of SJK (C) Shan Tao which turned 81 this year.

She made the announcement when addressing the 1100-strong gathering as the guest of honour at the school’s fund-raising dinner at Sabah Hakka Hall on Friday night.

Liew, who is also Minister of Tourism, Culture and Environment, stressed that education is the most powerful tool which can be used to improve our lives, our society and the nation.

“As a People’s Representative, lending a hand in the field of education is one of my priorities. I hope the school will succeed in its plan to install an interactive board in each of its 45 classrooms for better study concentration,” she said.

The Minister reminded parents that children are their greatest assets, and any investment in their education will pay the best interest.

SJK (C) Shan Tao, which was formerly known as Kung Ming Primary School, has an enrolment of 1,869 students.

Liew noted that the school has achieved excellence in both academic performance and co-curricular activities over the years.

“Last year, the school scored a passing rate of 91.81pc in the UPSR (or Primary School Achievement Test), and this was declared as the top result among SJK (C) schools in Sabah. Congratulations to the Headmaster Andrew Chong and his hard-working teachers on the achievement, and do keep up the good track record.

“I wish the SJK (C) Shan Tao Board of Governors, Parent-Teacher Association (PIBG) and School Alumni Association all the best in their undertakings for continued progress of the school,” she said.

On behalf of the school, President of SJK (C) Shan Tao Parent-Teacher Association (PIBG), Kapitan Eliza Goh expressed her gratitude to the Minister for her contribution.

Among the guests were Minister of Youth and Sports, Ginger Phoong, Assistant Minister of Law and Native Affairs, Jannie Lasimbang, MP for Kota Kinabalu Chan Foong Hin and Likas Assemblyman Tan Lee Fatt.

Also present were SJK (C) Shan Tao Vice-Heads Agnes Wee and Chung Tek Fei, PIBG Adviser Fung Mou Poon and President of the School Alumni Association, Fung Chun Fatt.
