SANDAKAN MONTHLY CAR PARKING COUPON 60% HIGHER THAN OTHER DISTRICTS

SANDAKAN : The  monthly car parking coupon charges in Sandakan is 60% higher than what car drivers in Kota Kinabalu and Tawau are paying.

The monthly parking ticket is only RM50 for Kota Kinabalu and RM53 for Tawau. But apparently Sandakan Municipal Council (MPS) is charging the monthly coupon for RM80 which is 60% higher than Tawau and Kota Kinabalu, Advisor of Malaysia Corruption Watch Dato Chew Kok Woh (pic) said.

Chew urged  MPS to immediately suspend and review the whole system with  local representatives including those from the opposition party and NGOs, , and also the elected representatives 

Why is the vast difference in the monthly charges for the districts. Is it due to the cost of printing the coupons or is there an element of abuse of power or any malpractice involved, Chew asked.

Residents and business owners around the newly implemented car parking areas suggested that :

1. RM 50 monthly car parking for the 11 satellite towns

2. RM30 monthly car parking for certain specified area ie. Bandar Kim Fung , Bandar Utama or Bandar Indah.

“As I have said before apparently no proper study was carried out before implementing the car parking coupon system as no notice board was erected at most of the areas to inform the public,” Chew said.

Since MPS Councilors had voted to implement this car parking coupon, may I suggest for equality and fairness that they should not enjoyed free car parking privilege  as they are paid allowances when attending meetings , Chew pointed out.

The MPS president should have the courtesy to get the blessings of the local elected representatives before going ahead with its implementation. If the feedback is negative MPS president being a Public Servant should take heed not to proceed. In light of this, our elected representatives too should take full responsibility as they have their councilors representing them in MPS on decision making.
