SANDAKAN: The Construction Industry Development Board (CIDB) issued seven notices to building contractors here during the integrated enforcement operation yesterday.
CIDB Sandakan Manager, Mohd Hanif Abdul Rahman said two were for offences under Section 33A (6) CIDB Act 1994 for hiring construction site supervisor or skilled construction worker not accredited and certified by CIDB while five notices under Section 27 of the same Act for failing to disclose the required details of contractors and projects.
“One main contractor registered with CIDB and five subcontractors have been summoned to the CIDB office following the site inspections,” he added.
According to Mohd Hanif , 244 workers were checked comprising of 60 locals and 144 foreigners. Of the total, 63 workers were registered as construction personnel and 93 were unregistered while 155 not accredited.
DOSH issued 8 notices for offences under the Factories and Machinery Act 1967 and Occupational Safety and Health Act 1994, Health Department issued two notices for breeding larvae of disease-carrying insects and compounded RM 15,000 in 3 locations and 2 notices were issued by ST for failing to provide fire extinguishers and having expired fire extinguishers in generator room, he said.
Meanwhile, 84 foreign workers without documents were detained by the Immigration Department in the operation.
Mohd Hanif said the joint operation involved 60 personnel from Sandakan Municipal Council (MPS), Department of Occupational Safety and Health (DOSH), Health Department, Immigration Department, Energy Commission (ST) and Construction Academy of Malaysia (ABM).– (NEW SABAH TIMES)
