KOTA KINABALU: United Progressive Kinabalu Organisation, in condemning acts which belittle other religions, appealed for Malaysians to live harmoniously.
“We must not only be united, we must also be seen as united. I condemn any acts which disrupt unity, UPKO condemns ‘holier-than-thou’ attitude, we cannot tolerate bigotry. Respecting one another, living in harmony must be our routine norm in life. That is my prayer,” said Senator Datuk Donald Mojuntin.
The UPKO deputy president said, “talking nonsense in Parliament” is uncalled for but defending and affirming outside the august House what was said was “simply outrageous and offensive”.
“When I first heard about it, I didn’t want to believe it. And then he defended it. Any good thinking Malaysians must not condone such divisive attitude.
“I urge him to retract his statement. I am also waiting for his fellow Muslim to reprimand him. Let’s live the Rukun Negara, Kesopanan dan Kesusilaan,” added Mojuntin.
The UPKO Penampang chief was asked today to comment on Pasir Puteh MP Nik Muhammad Zawawi Salleh who was reported to have declined to apologise for saying the Christian Bible was distorted (dipesong), stating that Christians had no right to be offended.
Mojuntin said today being Sunday the Catholic churches in Sabah prayed for the country and her leaders.
“The churches are praying for the country, for Sabah. I know other religions are also offering similar prayers. That is how and what it should be.
“Let us also asked for forgiveness. And in my humble self, as a Malaysian Christian, I forgive Pasir Puteh but right thinking citizens may not be able to forget his offensive actions,” he added.-http://beritasabah.com
