SANDAKAN REGATTA STARTS FRIDAY

SANDAKAN: Top sailors in Sabah are converging in Sandakan for the three day Sandakan Regatta/ Sandakan River Race/ Sabah Closed which starts tomorrow.

 The organiser has received the registration of 51 sailors comprising one (Royal Brunei Yacht Club), four (Sandakan Yacht Club), five (Tawau Yacht Club), 13 (Kinabalu Yacht Club), 13 (Sabah Sailing Association) and 15 (Navy Yacht Club Kota Kinabalu) for this year’s regatta.

Sandakan Regatta/ Sandakan River Race/ Sabah Closed 2019 is organised by Sandakan Yacht Club and will be held in the sea fronting the club house at Jalan Buli Sim Sim.

 This is the biggest sailing event in the east coast of Sabah and endorsed by Sabah Sailing Association (SAILA) as a ranking event for Sabah State Sailors. 

The Sandakan Regatta/ Sandakan River Race is the final event of the Sabah Sailing Annual Calendar where the Best Sailors for Sabah will be decided at the end of the regatta.

SYC commodore Joseph Soong expressed appreciation to all sponsors for their support including elected representatives (YB) and also the organising committee headed by vice commodore James Leong for making this year’s regatta possible.  

He also expressed gratitude to all relevant government departments for extending cooperation to the organiser to ensure the safety of the sailors during the regatta.

The Sandakan team is coached by Wan Mohd Fazeli Wan Zin, Mohd Rezmin Ismah and Muhammad Samsuri Mamat from the Royal Malaysian Navy.
