SANDAKAN: The Sri Sithi Vinayagar temple in Sandakan will perform prayers in conjunction with the Vinayagar Sathurthi festival on Monday, one of the major religious events for Hindus worldwide.
The Management Committee of Sri Sithi Vinayagar Temple,Sandakan extend their greetings and invitation to all devotees and friends to join in the prayers and the chariot procession which will be the pinnacle of the 10 day prayers and will culminate on Sept 2.
In a statement here today, temple management chairman K. Ganesan said about 500 people were expected to join in the festival. He said prayers would be held from 7 am, followed by the main pooja at 12.00 pm, and lunch will be served for 300 people at noon.
The highlight of the religious ceremony would be the chariot procession carrying lord Vinayagar which would begin about 7.30 pm, along the roads in Sandakan according to the stipulated route, Ganesan said.
The Vinayagar Sathurthi is one of the biggest festivals celebrated by Hindus worldwide to mark the birthday of Lord Ganesha who is widely worshipped as the god of wisdom, prosperity and good fortune, Ganesan said.
Ganesh Chaturti, or Vinayagar Sathurthi, popularly known as Ganapati Festival is the birthday of Lord Ganesha. Ganesh Utsav falls on the fourth day of waxing phase of moon (Shukla Paksha) in the Hindu month of Bhadrapad (August-September), he added.
